Early Childhood Homelessness: Home Safe Home
Allies for Children works to advance policies protecting the rights and wellbeing of children experiencing homelessness. We are working with our partners to address housing inequalities and reduce barriers to services such as early childhood education, early intervention, and other early learning services crucial for children to grow and thrive.
We know that in the U.S., annually, around 1.3 million children under age six experience homelessness. Families with young children are especially vulnerable, and families with children comprise approximately 30-40% of the nation’s homeless population. Research indicates that the siloing of early childhood systems and housing programs must be addressed to effectively mitigate the impacts of homelessness on children’s development.
