Prevention of Lead Poisoning: Protecting all Children
Allies for Children works to advance policies that emphasize primary prevention of childhood lead poisoning.
In 2017, we participated in the Allegheny County Lead Task Force, which reviewed data on all sources of lead and provided a set of recommendations for further action. The Task Force concluded that both primary prevention and intervention strategies are required, but only primary prevention will result in a reduction in childhood lead exposure.
As part of the Lead Free Promise Project, a statewide coalition, we monitor local opportunities to reduce children’s exposure to lead in the home. By preventing household exposures, we aim to prevent harmful effects of lead before these occur, supporting the overall goal of children’s health and learning.
