Heather Wilkes grew up in the Alle-Kiski Valley with her parents and siblings. Growing up, her family instilled the value of hard work, education, and the value of experience.
Heather attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a related area in Administration of Justice.
Upon graduation, Heather worked for A Second Chance, Inc Kinship Care, where she developed a passion for helping children, leading her to earn a teaching certificate at the University of Pittsburgh.
While looking for a job as a teacher, Heather took a position at KidsVoice as a Child Advocate Specialist. For over 15 years, she advocated for abused and neglected children. During her time at KidsVoice, Heather earned a Master’s degree in Education.
Heather joined Allies for Children in 2022, hoping to help shape policy and practice changes for all children.
Heather lives in the Blackridge neighborhood of Churchill Borough with her husband, James, and three of their daughters—Jayla, Amaya, and Dream, whom they welcomed into their family through adoption in June 2026. She is also the proud mother of two adult children, James and Kayla, and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, Katoure and Meilla, who love spending time at TT’s house. Heather cherishes time with her family and values creating a loving, supportive home centered on connection and belonging
