Jamie Baxter grew up in the Alle-Kiski Valley, where generations of her family worked at coal mines, construction sites, and the steel mills.

Jamie attended West Virginia University where she studied Political Science and Women Studies, becoming the first graduate of Women Studies at WVU.

After college, Jamie moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue her passion of becoming an advocate for the under-served. She campaigned for John Kerry in 2004; worked in the Government Relations office at the Council for Opportunity in Education; and served as the lead lobbyist for budget and appropriations and workforce development with the Association for Career and Technical Education. With a clear passion for public education, Jamie was elected by her peers as the treasurer, vice president, and eventually president of the Committee for Education Funding.

In 2012, Jamie and her family relocated to Pittsburgh and she became the first Director of Legislative Policy and Advocacy at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

In 2017, Jamie joined Allies for Children as the Education Policy Director. In this role, Jamie led the advocacy around school funding, school transportation, career and technical education, and other education areas. In November of 2021, Jamie took the helm as the Executive Director of the organization.

Jamie resides in Allison Park with her husband and their two sons. On the weekends, you can usually find her and her family walking the trails in Hartwood Acres.
